Safety awareness

Wali Marriage does not conduct criminal background screenings of its members.

A "Verified" badge means a person matched their government ID and a live selfie. It is not a criminal background check.

A few habits that keep meeting someone safe. They apply to every member.

  • Anyone who is able to commit identity theft can also falsify a profile.
  • There is no substitute for acting with caution when communicating with any stranger who wants to meet you.
  • Never include your last name, email address, home address, phone number, place of work, or any other identifying information in your profile or first messages. Stop communicating with anyone who pressures you for personal or financial information or tries in any way to trick you into revealing it.
  • If you choose to meet in person, involve your wali or family, and always tell someone in your family or a friend where you are going and when you will return. Never agree to be picked up at your home. Provide your own transportation and meet in a public place with many people around.
  • Never send money to someone you have not met, whatever the reason given.
  • If something feels wrong, you can block or report anyone from their profile or your conversation, at any time.
